Module Overview
This module establishes the conceptual scaffolding for the entire course — how functional/lifestyle medicine differs from conventional care, the biological foundation of aging (the 12 Hallmarks of Aging), the HSI framework used to organize case information throughout the course, and the lifespan/healthspan distinction that drives everything that follows.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this module, learners will be able to:
- Explain how functional/lifestyle medicine's core question differs from conventional medicine's symptom-management model
- Describe the 12 Hallmarks of Aging and their three-category structure (primary, antagonistic, integrative)
- Distinguish lifespan from healthspan and explain why this drives clinical priorities
- Apply the original HSI Healthspan Model, and the HSI Method, to organize and act on a patient/client case — including sequencing all five Method steps end to end on a realistic case
