For aesthetic nurses who would like to gain practical experience prior to working independently, finding work in established clinics is the preferred option. This provides invaluable support during the beginning period of your specialty and helps build confidence in your aesthetic nurse skills.
You should aim to seek work in clinics with prescribers who consult and prescribe for patients. As an aesthetic registered nurse, you will be working under their supervision initially, with support for clinical evaluation and management of any complications.
Working with a Prescriber as an Aesthetic Nurse
A prescriber can be a doctor, dentist, or a prescribing nurse or pharmacist. It is possible you already know a qualified prescriber you can work with. However, if this is not the case, we can link you up with a prescriber local to your area as soon as you have completed our Foundation Botox and Dermal Filler training course.
It is very important for aesthetic nurses to understand that although you would be administering the Botox, the prescriber is ultimately the person who is responsible for the treatment and therefore the outcomes. Choosing a prescriber requires not just trust, but also confidence that they are appropriately trained and experienced in botox training themselves.
Many nurses considering aesthetic nurse training are concerned about finding a prescriber, but it might be simpler than you think to locate a local prescriber to support your aesthetic nursing practice.
V300 Course: Prescribe Yourself as an Aesthetic Nurse
Working independently as an aesthetic nurse is also an option but requires you to be a prescriber yourself. This may be preferred for aesthetic registered nurses looking to set up their own practice. The V300 course is available in several universities in the UK and would take an average of 6 months to complete.
However, you would need to have practiced as a registered nurse for a minimum of three years to qualify for the V300 prescribing programme. This is an important consideration for your aesthetic nurse education pathway.
Becoming a prescriber will allow you more independence in your aesthetic nursing career.
